Night watchman realizes phantom bakery smell is coming from his own mouth
A security guard at a grain elevator tracked a mysterious bread smell for weeks, only to discover he was the source all along.
A warm bread smell stopped at a bolted roadside chair. Marcus took the night watch at an old grain elevator while its truck scale was being replaced. At 1240, the smell came through the loading bay.
The smell appears in an empty facility
The bins held raw wheat, and the nearest bakery was six miles away. Some nights, the smell faded by Marcus' desk. One Tuesday, it stayed with him upstairs and grew stronger beside an empty bin.
Marcus tries to track the source
Marcus started waiting outside. Right on time, the smell crossed the gravel and stopped where the chair is now. His manager came out and smelled nothing on either side.
The truth reveals itself
Then Marcus stepped toward the elevator. The manager smelled bread coming from Marcus' mouth. The chair did not stop the smell.
It marked where Marcus stood before the smell moved with him.
